I dated Jerry from 1960 until 1964. He was the sweetest man I ever knew. I would like everyone to know that he was not only my boyfriend, but my best friend. He protected me from problems at home and at school. He helped me adjust to the move to Lanier in 1962.

I loved him with all my heart then and still do today.

If you were his friend, you were his friend for life. I called him in 1998 when I came back to Austin for Christmas and left the message that "Tex," the nickname he gave me, had called and his secretary said she'd never seen him move so fast to call someone back. We talked for a long time, and he didn't tell me he was so ill. He knew if he did I would have stayed here and taken care of him. I cried for four days when I learned he'd died. I was so honored to be his girlfriend and his friend. I miss him to this day and still cry.
